Is it ok to eat right before bed?
Of course it is! Just eat the right foods.
First of all, I recommend a drop of Lavender essential oil on your pillow, feet or chest to help calm you before bed and turning all screens off an hour before you hit the sack to help you fall asleep much faster.
Bananas are a great source of magnesium that help with muscle recovery while you sleep.
Turkey is not only high in protein which supports muscle repair, but it also contains tryptophan, an essential amino acid our bodies cannot produce that is used in the biosynthesis of proteins.
Almonds also contain magnesium and tryptophan, and are a great source of healthy fat.
Honey, interestingly will stimulate the release of melatonin, the hormone that regulates wakefulness.
Oats also stimulates the release of melatonin and contain great sources of vitamins, minerals and among acid.
Foods/Beverages to avoid before bed.
Alcohol, while it may help you fall asleep initially, it makes it herder to get into the deep sleep necessary for a good nights rest and recovery.
Cheese can keep you awake due to the high levels of the amino acid tyramine, which can increase your blood pressure.
Fatty Foods take longer to digest and are much higher in calories. Save them for breakfast.
Coffee, even tho many say they can fall asleep after drinking it, it makes it harder to get into deep sleep.
Spicy foods or anything that gives your stomach indigestion, it’s never a good feeling while you’re trying to sleep.
